TOMMY'S ANNUAL PICK 5 HORRIFIC SUMMER TYPE FLICKS! - "DO THE RIGHT THING" A TIMELESS MESSAGE

The iconic love-hate brass knuckles scene with the wonderfully talented Bill Nunn who we lost last year.
On one of the hottest days of the summer in Brooklyn, racial tensions slowly bubble over to an inevitable climax. Along the way we're treated to an array of comedic characters. A film with a ton of great acting talent, many young at the time and now A-listers. Some like Bill Nunn, Ozzy and Ruby, are no longer here but the message of the film lasts forever. I think we could use a refresher in our current days and times and that's why I have included it for the first time this year.....The Horror!!

Do the Right Thing Movie Review (1989) | Roger Ebert

Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing" is the most controversial film of the year, and it only opens today. Thousands of people already have seen it at preview screenings, and everywhere I go, people are discussing it. Some of them are bothered by it; they think it will cause trouble.

The view | 20 years on, you can still Do the Right Thing

It's one of those moments that seem calculated by the gods purely to make you feel decrepit. I'm talking about the 20th anniversary of the week that one of the finest films of the 1980s - in fact, of all time - snuck under the wire and made it into the last weary months of that addled decade.

TOMMY'S ANNUAL PICK 5 HORRIFIC SUMMER TYPE FLICKS! - "EUROPEAN VACATION" IS THE FIRST HORROR

Greetings all! Every year about this time, I pick 5 "summer type" movies from my collection that get placed in a pile near the tube for rotation thru the summer. I started sharing them on the blog several years ago, so here we go with this year's picks, some new from last year and some not.....The Horror!!
Certain to invoke mixed reactions from movie fans, the 2nd installment in the "Vacation" series is mostly a matter of casting. The change of actors in both teenage parts was a big game changer. I actually prefer Jason Lively to Anthony Michael Hall and in my opinion Dana Hill is much funnier than the first daughter and carries a lot of weight with this film. It's hard to imagine it without her. So starting off with an oddball pick (after all it does take place in the summer ha ha) and still a big fav. Never tire of pulling this one off the shelf.....The Horror!!

Scopophilia, one of our recommended blogs is how I first found out about this one several years back, His blog specializes in 60's,70's and '80's cinema obscurities. Now this Tony Curtis flick is a romantic comedy and I must say my appreciation for him has grown over the years.
