STONES 1975! - THE HORROR THAT IS "SMACK AND BLOW" VOLS 1, 2 & 3 BLACK N BLUE HORROR-TAKES

Wanna be a fly on the wall while the Stones record
Black n Blue? I would be hard pressed to think of
a reason why the hell not! The man who calls
himself Captain Acid has done it once again with
another great release, I say Thank You Captain
and we salute you sir! The Horror!!  This is a new release from Captain Acid, a well known sound engineer with a predilection for Stones music that presents outtakes from the Black and Blue period in 3 volumes. These all come from some known bootlegs (see sources) but also from the newly discovered Montauk rehearsals, that have been phase corrected, speed checked, levelled, equalized and edited. At times in order to make the final version of some tracks two different files have been used. For example, there were tracks that sounded better but were not complete versions, so   different sources were used to make them complete; this can be heard in particular after about 3 minutes into the instrumental take of Memory Motel. The title for this release Smack And Blow has been chosen in consideration of the drugs of choice by the Glimmer Twins at the time, not to forget that it sounds similar to Black And Blue. The first track starts with some hiss in the background but I guess it was not possible to eliminate it, as higher frequencies would have been cut too. Most of the other tracks are great sounding and it is a pleasure to listen to them. - from a fan's review

IT'S THE "BEAST FROM HAUNTED COVE" RUN FOR YOUR LIVES! - 1959 HEIST B-FLICK THE HORROR

Have this as part of the 50 Drive-in movies set
but have never watched it until last night. I had
read several reviews on our other blogs so I
was prepared for the worst and guess what?
That's what I got. What's not to like about a
heist film set up in a ski resort and a monster
to boot. But it just doesn't deliver on any
front, perhaps if they had really tried to at
least make a believable monster, they could
have hung their hat on that. It's shot in South
Dakota which should be another redeeming
feature but that gets ruined as well with
atrocious lighting although some of the
exteriors with the lodge and ski lifts are
pretty cool. Using my Pinewoods Rating
System, I give this turkey One & 1/4
Pinewood.....The Horror!!

DAVID BOWIE 1971! - 'AYLESBURY FRIARS CLUB' FIRST KNOWN LIVE CAPTURE AN ABSOLUTE HORROR

Dig this 1971 one-off Bowie show that starts
off acoustic and then out comes the band
with Mick Ronson. It's all captured with
what sounds like a mic over rail and best
of all, we're hearing the interchange between
audience and Bowie, he was breaking out
that year and the sense of being on the brink
of super-stardom is very palatable, thumbs
way up on this one...The Horror!!

IGGY POP 1990! - REVISITING THE HORROR KNOWN AS "BRICK BY BRICK" A DIVERSE BRILLIANT ALBUM

Anybody remember these things? They were called albums.
Note the lyrics to songs and you put the record in the...
oh never mind. Hey! This great record put Iggy back
on the map in a serious way and catapulted him like
a rocket into the 90's where we saw some of his best
work, at least songwriting wise, and following a
string of 80's bombs, not a good decade for the
Iggy-meister. If you've never heard this, get ready

On Main Street"....The Horror!!
