ALL ARE WELCOME AT THOH AND THAT INCLUDES "UNHOLY ROLLERS"! - 1972 ROGER CORMAN HORROR

The Horror!! - This one's been on my watchlist for some time and now that I have partaken of the Unholy Rollers waters as it were, offer up the following conclusions. It is better than the big budget Kansas City Rollers it cloned itself after that same year. If they had toned down the softcore just a tad it would have been even better but then it wouldn't be sexploitation, ya dig? Fortunately the Roger Corman traits are all over this and it's shot nicely and edited very well to move briskly. Using my Pinewoods Rating System, I welcome Holy Rollers into the Tommy collection with Two Shabby Pinewoods.....The Horror!!

The Unholy Rollers

The Unholy Rollers (1972) -**** The great thing about exploitation movies is that no trend, no matter how short-lived or culturally insignificant, is safe from them. You expect exploitation movies about rock and roll, drag racing, biker gangs, hippies, drugs, punk rockers, and that sort of thing, but roller derby?!?!

Unholy Rollers (1972)

A serviceable melodrama set in the world of roller derby, In lieu of a fully realized storyline, Unholy Rollers is a fairly typical Roger Corman production in that it blends sex, violence, and an underdog antihero. For the most part, the picture avoids outright exploitation elements, so it makes for comparatively guiltless viewing.
